Winston-Salem is a small town with a big heart, located in the heart of North Carolina. It’s a charming town with a rich history and culture, and it’s known for its friendly locals, delicious food, and beautiful natural surroundings.
Winston-Salem is located in the Piedmont region of North Carolina, approximately 100 miles north of Charlotte and 120 miles west of Raleigh. It is also just a few hours’ drive from other major southeastern cities such as Atlanta, Richmond, and Washington D.C.

Things To Do
Shell Clam Shell
The Shell Clam Shell is a unique sculpture that’s become a landmark in Winston-Salem. Located in front of the Stevens Center, it’s a beautiful piece of art that’s definitely worth a visit. Make sure to snap a few photos while you’re there! Located on the corner of Sprague and Peachtree Streets.

Mast General Store
Mast General Store is a must-visit when in Winston-Salem. It’s a classic general store that’s been around since 1883, and it’s filled with all kinds of nostalgic goodies. From candy and toys to outdoor gear and home goods, there’s something for everyone here.
Artivity
Artivity is an incredible art space in downtown Winston-Salem. It’s a hub for artists, creatives, and art enthusiasts, and it’s home to several art galleries, studios, and performance spaces. Whether you’re an artist yourself or just appreciate art, this is a great place to explore.

Old Salem
Old Salem is a historic district in Winston-Salem that’s like stepping back in time. It’s a beautifully preserved Moravian settlement that dates back to the 1700s, and it’s filled with historic buildings, gardens, and demonstrations of traditional crafts and trades.


Mickey Coffee Pot
The Mickey Coffee Pot is a beloved landmark in Winston-Salem. It’s a giant coffee pot that’s been around since the 1850s, and it’s a testament to the town’s rich history and culture.


The Quarry at Grant Park
The Quarry at Grant Park is a beautiful natural area in Winston-Salem. It’s a former quarry that’s been transformed into a stunning park with hiking trails, picnic areas, and a beautiful lake. It’s a great spot to relax and enjoy the beauty of nature.



Food and Drink
The ORIGINAL Krispy Kreme (first location!)
Did you know that the first Krispy Kreme doughnut shop was founded in Winston-Salem in 1937? That’s right – this town is the birthplace of the iconic doughnut chain. Make sure to stop by the original shop for a delicious treat!
Honky Tonk Smokehouse Barbecue
Honky Tonk Smokehouse is a hidden gem in Winston-Salem. It’s a small BBQ joint that’s tucked away in a residential neighborhood, but it’s worth seeking out. The BBQ here is absolutely delicious, and the atmosphere is laid-back and friendly.
Get the brisket, the potato salad, the jalapeño baked beans, AND THE BANANA PUDDING!
Foothills Brewing
Foothills Brewing isn’t just a great place to grab a drink – it’s also a hub for the local community. From trivia nights to live music, there’s always something going on at Foothills. And if you’re hungry, be sure to try their delicious pub fare – we highly recommend the loaded tater tots! (also it was an incredible buffalo chicken wrap – next time I would 100% get their wings because the sauce was boss lol!)
Big Winston Bar Area (and Fiddlin’ Fish)
The Big Winston Bar Area is the place to be for a night out in Winston-Salem. It’s a lively area filled with bars, restaurants, and live music venues. Fiddlin’ Fish is a great spot to start – it’s a local brewery with a fantastic selection of craft beers and a laid-back atmosphere.

- The town is home to several colleges and universities, including Wake Forest University and Winston-Salem State

- Bethabara Park: This historic site was the first Moravian settlement in North Carolina, established in 1753. Visitors can tour the restored buildings and learn about the history of the area.
- Tanglewood Park: This large park features a golf course, horse stables, hiking trails, and a BMX track, as well as seasonal events such as a Festival of Lights during the holiday season.
- Salem Lake: This 365-acre lake is a popular spot for fishing, boating, and hiking, with several trails around the lake and a marina offering rentals.
- Old Salem Cobblestone Farmers Market: Held on Saturdays in the Old Salem Historic District, this farmers market features local produce, handmade crafts, and live music.
